well, there are a few things to do single player wise that are pretty good, but not incredibly long. Subspace Emmisary(around 8 hours, maybe a little more), Events(an hour or two, depends on difficulty), Classic mode(about the same length as Events). The Single player stuff is okay, but yes, it is mostly a multiplayer game.

Ok that being said; is any online multiplayer supported? or is it just local friends?

In Brawl, you can play free-for-all, or team battle with up to four players online. You can either choose anonymous opponents, or fight with friends if you trade your Brawl codes with each other.

Both, and what Flute said is correct, but the further away the players are from each other, the more lag is present in the matches. For example, I was playing against MegaloSaro(lives in Las Angeles, I live in Oregon) and the lag was noticeable.

here is my brawl code!
2234-6929-0477

and i must say they need to do a patch to fix this lag or take down their servers and redesign the multilayer mode online because the lag is stupid.
I have ran right off the ledge because the lag keeps thinking I'm moving the control stick in that direction.
with bad lag i have not bee able to recover with snake's up b move,
also i had this link nut case use the lag and do up a moves as i was comeing down because he could time it with the bad lag. he played marth once and did really badly XP.

so they take 2 months to remove the arth bound demo from brawl and they didn't seem to test online play over large distances?!

The only online test battle that I know of was the one announced about Tokyo vs. Kyoto, which isn't particularly THAT far away.
